The Krka in Bloom
Welcome to The Krka in Bloom exhibition, where every photo tells a story about the magical floral richness of the Krka National Park
Enchanting pictures of rare and endemic plant species that adorn the Park were taken by the talented members of the Šibenik Photo Club and the Knin Photo Club. So as to capture the beauty of these plants with their cameras, they explored the landscape, from wet meadows along the river, to dry rocky outcrops and cliffs in the karst landscape.
This exhibition presents some of the botanical gems that lie hidden in the Krka National Park, among them rare species and several Illyrian-Adriatic endemic plants.
The shining pyramidal bellflower grows persistently among the rocks in the canyon part of the Krka River. The numerous flowers of the meadow zones, which cover the valleys of the Krka and Čikola rivers, tempt us with the diversity of their colors.
The Dalmatian pellitory or daisy offers us many stories of its use as a natural insecticide, pyrethrum, including its usefullness when the Panama Canal was being dug. All these green heroes of moist meadows and dry rocky fields tell us stories about the struggle for survival and adaptation to an often harsh environment.
Indispensable at this exhibition is the iris, the Croatian national flower, which resides in the Park in the forms of the Illyrian and the yellow iris. Strictly protected by law, these irises were also symbols of ancient beliefs and mythological stories: Slavic peoples say that iris sprouts where the thunderbolt of the god Perun strikes, while the Ancient Greeks dedicated this flower to Iris, the goddess of the rainbow and messenger of the gods. There is also elecampane, which is said to have been named Inula helenium after Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the world, who was picking it when she was abducted by the Trojan prince Paris.
This exhibition invites you to step into a world where nature paints the most beautiful landscapes and flowers dance their lovely dance. The Krka in Bloom is not just a photographic exhibition – it is a poetic journey through the magic of nature, in which every flower and every plant tells its own story.
